Ten Tors is an annual expedition on Dartmoor organised by the British Army. Teams of 6 young people have to visit 10 tors over two days, the distance the teams travel depends on their age and previous experience of the event.
There are twenty-six different routes over three different distances lettered from A to Z, using a total of nineteen different manned tors: twelve Bronze routes of 35 miles (56 km) for those aged 14 to 15 years, ten Silver routes of 45 miles (72 km) for those aged 16 to 17 years and four Gold routes of 55 miles (89 km) for those aged 18 to 19 years, or 17-year-olds who completed a Silver route the previous year.
Teams are self sufficient while they are on the moor; they carry their own food, water, tents etc and must navigate themselves between the Tors without outside help or electronic navigation.
Taking part in Ten Tors is a huge commitment. You must be prepared to give up a number of weekends for training. It is important that you practice and develop your fitness, team-working and navigation skills.
We are hoping to enter at two teams for the event which takes place on the 9th-10th May 2015.
