Paignton Community & Sports Academy have been entering teams into the Ten Tors event for a number of years. We have been very successful with teams completing the challenge and our drop out rate during the event is low.
A dedicated team of teachers, outdoor professionals and volunteers work to train the Ten Tors teams during a progressive training programme. It is essential that anyone planning to take part, attend as many training weekends as possible. This is because the training walks start off easily where important skills such as navigation and camp craft are taught and progress to much longer walks with full kit being carried. Almost immediately into the training, students are expected to camp overnight in tents – this is to ensure they develop the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to operate independently on the event itself. All of the training is conducted with the relevant qualified staff and overseen by the team manager; the head of outdoor education.
